IDCOL: Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL)
STATUS :COMPETITION ENTRY,2018

The   project addresses the technical challenge to accommodate offices for IDCOL & its facilities in a rather tight urban site. the form is a conciliation of function, context, climate & structure. The leaning front mass invites visitors through a lofty semi open space which also serves as the pre-text to the main lobby area.

The idea was to make a kind of air funnel to provide ample natural ventilation within the work spaces thus reducing energy dependency. The built form is anticipated in a way that natural light is wedged in to ensure that dependency upon artificial lighting is reduced. Ample natural ventilation is also ensured by maximizing orientation to the southern breeze. thus reducing energy dependency.

A layer of metal funnel fin system mimicking a venturi tube should reduce indoor temperature further. The funnel type structure should induce passive cooling to the building interior, in a way, that interior comfort level can be more sympathetic to nature.

the open & semi open spaces in the roof are proportioned to cater a rich working environment for the users. These spaces would be a concession to the working environment for the offices thus enhancing efficiency of its users.. The upper roof works as a parasol to protect the building from direct solar heat gain. Also, the roof works as a rain water collector to supply grey water for flushing & other uses. The surplus water can be used to recharge ground water.

The lower floors are dedicated for multipurpose spaces, service spaces etc.

The office spaces are designed to provide flexible office planning.

roof top solar system should provide energy for the emergency equipment & car lift system. Depending upon the requirement the building traffic can also be managed by dedicating the area currently allocated for service lobby area. Vehicular transportation by means of car lift & turntable system would   reduce need of ramp, reduce construction time, material, complexity under serious space constraint.

Safety stairs, fire exits, firefighting provisions are well provided for the project and also follows DMNIB regarding architectural issues.
