Bangla Academy

The project was conceived to create a vibrant exterior space as well as an enthusiastic interior .By shifting the axis of built forms, in-between spaces become the public plaza overlooking a water body .While a sky-lit atrium & roof terrace caters ample concession to the interior spaces.

The main mass extends as a continuation of the existing academy building while the auditorium, latticed elevated walkway and  walkways that are erected upon temporary bookstalls(for annual book fair)create all together a visual tension which adds up to the cities urbanity. The projecting main mass at one end intersects with the circular open air theater which is surrounded by water. By composing the new academy building, existing structures & reshaping landscape features a vibrant complex was envisioned.

The project is basically a journey by means of pathways, nodes, terminations as well as spaces for events & activities articulated to form an integrated institution that would cater bangle academy to enhance its pivotal role in Bengali society as visitors & users alike travel through history & modernity.
