LAGI, fresh kills park, NY
Status: competition entry,2012
the understanding of the site shows absence of prominent solar ,wind or hydro power to be capitalized-rather their might be a chance to enhance human & other activity that the fresh kills park lacks & to somehow transform this activity into a source of power generation might be a positive intervention if transformed to a landscape art of architectural value.
In this way not only the environmental stigma will be removed it would further enhance public activity round the clock as well as to give a feedback into a power generation source. The primary concept is to use human & other activity to generate power with minimum intervention that disturbs the context & its limitations. Any presence or movement of mass that exerts force due to gravity on micro pumps starts a chain reaction by gradually gaining higher heights of water columns. The water columns have weights on top as pistons, which work basically according to Pascal’s law. the final water column works as the power generation unit as it falls with its static energy to rotate an impeller which in course is attached to alternators to produce electricity .the water towers can be filled with water based dye so that a colorful display of water towers can be both a functional device as well as a kind of optical form that would bath the park with color, light & spectacle.
