MODERN ART MUSEUM, LIMA, PERU

COMPETITION ENTRY(2016)

-in terms of formal expression intends to give a gateway effect which simultaneously frames the historical facade of the current museum and also  enhances it as a forum  for  exhibitions, displays & artistic endeavors to take place. nevertheless the spaces would be as subtle & rational as possible thus becoming unobtrusive to its context. In this way the project would merge with the immediate context & provide a viable inspiration for the vicinity & the city  as well in terms of future public events.

By means of physical planning – pedestrian connections with the Dammert park, proposed metro links & the exposition park is established. in this way the sunken plaza becomes altogether a vibrant space for public activity. the cafe is relocated to the northern end of the plaza where it can serve the metro users as well. The class rooms are anticipated to be within the old building  & thus separately accessed. This can be done as the space freed upon by the library can be utilized.

The main plaza is to create a higher degree of enclosure  & remain in a shadow zone of noise. a screen of water may also be integrated for further dampening the sound with the soft ripple of water. The design is intended to become a platform for public  ,social  & artistic events ,congregations & exhibitions .it is anticipated to be a hub for both tangible & intangible aft forms that would create an  ambiance of rich architectonics.

-is a rather  flat grid space where display panels of modular shapes & sizes can be accommodated with ease by means of tracks, suspension cables or floor bolting. the entrance to the gallery is mainly from the sunken plaza level from where the visitors can take a ramp down to the gallery. a skylight above the ramp brings in diffused light to the gallery to enrich the space. also another narrow skylight on the opposite side washes the wall of the gallery and brings in dramatic light effect from  reflections of plaza level water pools .

-is a total landscape scheme which  would be integrated in a way that important structures & iconic built forms can be composed with walk ways & pavilions which may relate to the form /lattice /geometry of the proposed detail design. both an  intuitive & functional approach to the main park scheme would work as a guideline for the expo park design. The north east unused water court is mediated by a sunken court with kiosks & food courts  relocated from other parts of the park which is accessed by a curved ramp from street level .a new parking structure is incorporated in that part by relocating it from the  Escuela Nacional de Arte Dramático. Depending upon parking requirements -the top of the parking may be either used as green or parking space alone. The botanical garden  can be in a rather grid like pattern & gently sloped towards the water body.

As a whole  the museum plaza with its entrance built form would be a generating force & inspiration as well for future developments to take place within the park & beyond.
